After completing his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Dr. Avinashi spent time doing clinical electives in a variety of settings around the world. These experiences, as well as his fluency in English, French, and Hindi, have allowed him to broaden his scope of practice and touch on a great deal of patient types.
Dr. Avinashi has a special interest in ocular surface diseases, laser refractive surgery, contact lenses and pediatric eye care. In 1999, he successfully underwent laser surgery himself and is now better able to advise and manage his patients who are considering the procedure for themselves.
Dr. Avinashi takes a strong interest in humanitarian work, both locally and internationally. He has initiated various fundraising campaigns to support a range of third world eye care societies. He also travels to Northern BC routinely to provide eye-care services to under-serviced communities.
Dr. Avinashi is a regular speaker and lecturer, focusing his topics on prevention and ocular health, to advances in medical optometry and practice management. His audiences range from primary school students, local community senior groups, to medical colleagues across the country. In 2013, he we recognized by the BC Association of Optometrists as the Young Optometrist of the Year. In 2014, the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce acknowledged him as the Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
In his professional career, Dr. Avinashi has built a reputation for his thorough and compassionate approach to eye care, catered to the individual needs of his patients, regardless of their age. He is happy to bring his experience and dynamic personality to his practices on the North Shore.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Dr. Nounopoulos earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba. She then went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry degree at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago.
As part of her training, Dr. Nounopoulos has worked in a variety of clinical settings including a VA hospital in Florida, a Naval Base in Maine and a large Contact Lens practice in Alaska. Upon graduation, she returned home to Winnipeg where she worked at an inner city clinic before moving to Vancouver in 2006.
Dr. Nounopoulos is focused on providing exceptional eye care to a diverse patient base with an emphasis on patient education and eye health. She has a special interest in ocular disease prevention and management and strives to provide a pleasant experience and the utmost care.
Dr. Nounopoulos is a member of the Beta Sigma, Kappa International Optometric Honor Society and she is fluent in Greek and Basic French.
Dr. Sameera Jhamb completed her Doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry, Chicago, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She was awarded membership into the Tomb and Key Honor Society, Beta Sigma Kappa International Honor Society, & the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society. She grew up in Burnaby, BC and went to Simon Fraser University for her undergraduate degree in Science, and she is fluent in English, Hindi, and French.
She has had a diverse clinical experience, ranging from extensive work with kids needing vision therapy to veterans with advanced macular degeneration and glaucoma. She traveled around the continent during her clinical rotations to obtain the best experiences she could in the areas of ocular disease, contact lens, and pediatrics, and is committed to keeping up with the industry’s leading research to ensure that her patients are receiving the best possible eye care.
Most importantly, Dr. Jhamb understands the value of sight, and thus places a strong emphasis on education during her patient interactions so that she can help everyone achieve their maximum visual potential.
Dr. Prpic was raised in Vancouver, B.C., where he completed his undergraduate studies and received his Bachelor of Science from The University of British Columbia. Dr. Prpic then moved to Boston and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from The New England College of Optometry.
During his clinical training, Dr. Prpic practiced ocular disease management at the Providence Veteran’s Affairs Hospital, speciality contact lens dispensing and management at Boston Medical Center, management of patients with low vision and care for individuals and children with intellectual and physical disabilities at the Perkins School for the Blind, and surgical co-management at Eye Consultants of Colorado.
Upon completion of his Doctor of Optometry degree, Dr. Prpic completed a residency through the State University of New York College of Optometry in ocular disease at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center. During his residency training, he worked directly with various specialists including: retinal surgeons, corneal surgeons, glaucoma specialists, oculoplastic surgeons, and neuro-ophthalmologists.
When Dr. Prpic is not providing eye care, he enjoys spending time outdoors skiing and hiking, and playing sports such as soccer and tennis.
Dr. Krajnyak is originally from Chilliwack, British Columbia. She attended the University of Waterloo, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree. She then received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. She graduated as a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Honors Society and was a student member of VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity).
After graduation, she completed a residency in Community Health Optometry at The Dimock Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Previous training includes multiple Boston Area community health centers, the Veterans Administration Hospital in Vancouver, Washington, and a specialty rotation at the New England Eye Institute. She has a passion for working in community based optometry with a focus on ocular disease.
